Traditional Chitlins Recipe
This Traditional Chitlins Recipe is one of our all time favorite chitterling recipes here at Uncle Lou’s.
Ingredients
- 2 5lb bags Uncle Lou’s Super Clean Chitlins pork chitterlings
- 1 clove garlic, finely diced
- 1 cup diced celery
- 1 cup diced onions
- 2 tablespoons crushed red pepper
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Rinse and clean chitlins as desired.
- In a large stock pot, completely cover chitlins with water and boil for 1 hour.
- Drain water from pot and cover again with fresh water.
- Add garlic, celery, onions, and crushed red pepper. Boil until chitlins are tender (approximately 1½ to 2 hours).
- Add salt and pepper to taste.
Spiced Chitlins Recipe
This recipe adds some spices for a great new taste.
Ingredients
- 2 5lb bags Uncle Lou’s Super Clean Chitlins pork chitterlings
- ¼ cup vinegar
- 2 medium onions, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, finely diced
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- ½ tsp allspice
- ½ tsp cloves
- ½ tsp thyme
- hot sauce to taste
- 14oz can tomato sauce (optional)
Instructions
- Rinse and clean chitlins as desired. Remove fat.
- In a large stock pot, completely cover chitlins with water and boil for 1 hour.
- Drain water from pot and cover again with fresh water.
- Add vinegar, onions, garlic, spices, and hot sauce. Boil until chitlins are tender (approximately 1½ to 2 hours). During the last 15 minutes, add tomato sauce if desired.
- Cut in small pieces. Serve with coleslaw, potato salad, and baked beans.
